Yiannis Romanos

Yiannis Romanos is a Viola teacher at the HAEF Athens College and Co-Principal musician of the National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Greece. He started violin at the age of six at the “Athens Conservatory” under prof. Tatsis Apostolidis. In 1995 he took up viola lessons by M. Grammatikakis. At the age of 21, he continued his Viola studies at the Hochschule für Music Köln, under the supervision of Prof. Werner Dickel, from where he graduated in 2010. From 2004 to 2011 he attended seminars for Solo Viola with Bernard Oll, Helmut Lindemann and Yuval Gotlibovitch. In 2010 to 2011, he attended a Seminar at the Educational Psychology University of Athens.

He has participated in Festivals such as, The Porto Heli Music Festival and The Cyclades-Syros International Classical Music Festival. During his studies in Germany he became a member of the Münster Symphony Orchestra (Corium Orchestra Münster). In 2011 he returned to Greece and collaborated with the National Greek Opera and Armonia Athenea Orchestra until 2014. He worked with famous foreign and Greek conductors and artists such as R. Mutti, H. Carrera, A Bocceli, V. Karagianni. M. Plasson, E. Karaindrou, D. Papadimitriou.

He participated in a series of performances of the theatrical play “DANTE ALIGHIERI”, sponsored by “Onassis Foundation”, which took place both in France and Greece. In 2019 he recorded the original music of M. Hatzidakis arranged by N. Kypourgos for the Luigi Pirandello’s, ”Tonight We Improvise" for the Greek National Theater. He has also recorded works for Solo Viola in the Hellenic Radio E.R.T. and collaborated as a soloist with the Radio Contemporary Music Orchestra.

In 2014 he created the International Strings and Piano Seminar "Zante Music Masterclass" with student and professors from Spain, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Israel.

In 2018 he started his collaboration with the Hellenic Cancer Society with the "Dorela" program (Music Composition and Creation for Children and Adolescents with Neoplastic Diseases) for which he was awarded. The program is being held at the "Flοga” (Parents’ Association of Children with Cancer) and the "Elpida Children's Hospital - Agia Sophia." The musical creations of the children who participated in the program, were recorded by National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Greek Radio. The program was presented on ERT Television by journalist Yiannis Darras in a documentary dedicated to it, entitled “Synathropoi”.
