Stathis Gyftakis
 
 

Stathis Gyftakis was born in Kalamata in 1967.

He studied piano with Dora Bakopoulou and composition with Theodore Antoniou. His works have been performed with great success in Greece, the USA, Canada, Turkey, Italy, Germany, France, etc. as well as in important Festivals such as the "2nd Kalamata Dance Festival", the "Festival of Mediterranean Countries" in Istanbul (2005 and 2008), the "Greece in Milan" Festival (2007), the "2nd International Music Festival of Aegina" (2007) and the "Volos International Music Theater Festival" (2009) or have been selected and awarded in Contemporary Music Workshops and Competitions in Greece and Abroad. He has written works commissioned by the Orchestra of Colors, the National Opera, the National Research Foundation, the Athens Concert Hall and by numerous soloists and musical groups.

He teaches piano and advanced theory at the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata where he also served as Artistic Director from 2003 to 2009.
