Mikhail Smirnov
 
 

Mikhail Smirnov has been a musician in the Violas of the State Orchestra of Athens since 1993. He was born in Ivanovo, Russia. At the age of 5 he started violin lessons. In 1975 he went to Moscow and studied in the class of Mikhail Melnik, from where he received a Diploma in Violin with Honors. He then studied at the Tchaikovsky Music Academy, next to Professor Alexander Bobrovsky, from where he graduated with a Diploma in Viola.
In 1984 he won the First Prize in an Improvisation Competition in Moscow.
He has been a member of the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra.
He has given chamber music recitals and participated in many musical ensembles, performing classical and contemporary repertoire, in Russia, Germany, Italy and Greece.
