Maria Economou
 
 

Maria Economou was born in Athens and started piano lessons at the age of 6. She continued her studies in Venice, Italy. She received her Piano Diploma from the "Nikos Skalkotas" Conservatory in Athens with teacher Natalia Michailidou. She also graduated from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris/Alfred Cortot (class of Cécile Edel - Latos). During her seven-year stay in Paris, she attended the Department of French Literature at the Sorbonne University, where, upon graduation, she presented her thesis on: "Proust, Gide et la Musique". She appeared in many concerts in France, Greece and Saudi Arabia, where she received excellent reviews, especially for her interpretation of works by French composers (C. A. Debussy, J. M. Damase, J. L. Mansart). She often performs with excellent soloists in chamber music concerts in Greece and abroad.
She holds degrees in Harmony and Counterpoint. She teaches piano and advanced theory.
