Sophocles Sapounas was born in 1972 in Athens, though his family is from Larissa.
He has received diplomas in Piano, Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue and Accordion, as well as Diploma in Keyboard from the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe.
He has studied music next to many great tutors. His most important mentor was the composer and conductor Yiannis Ioannides, who taught him piano and advanced music theory.
In 1990, aged only 18, he was hired as a music teacher at the Attico Conservatory of Holargos (now called Meandrio), where he worked until 1993. He has been teaching music ever since, for over three decades.
In 1991, at the age of 19, he founded Erateio Conservatory, which he continues to run to this day.
He is also actively involved in music productions, founding an independent record company called “Subways Music” in 2003.
He has published countless albums and singles, in both physical and electronic format. Meanwhile, he has organised many concerts, mostly of classical music, in Greece and abroad.
He has been awarded twice for his record productions, by the Union of Greek Theatrical and Music Critics (2008 and 2016), and was nominated a further seven times. His latest nominations are for the best recordings of the years 2020/21.
In 2022 he founded Subways’ Radio, the internet radio station of Subways Music and Erateio Conservatory.
He teaches piano, music theory and history of music at Erateio Conservatory.
